White Spire rated Good with outstanding features in latest inspection
White Spire Special School in Bletchley has been rated ‘good’ by Government inspectors Ofsted. The school, which provides education for 126 pupils aged between seven and 19, is said to provide outstanding care, support and guidance to its pupils.
A report published following the inspectors’ visit in June says the school has gained the confidence of parents and carers in how it cares for, educates and prepares children for the future. Well developed, outstanding partnerships with community partners have been crucial to much of the school’s success.
Inspectors said that safeguarding arrangements at the school are good. Staff keep pupils safe and make sure they feel secure, which has a positive effect on their confidence, learning and personal development. Pupils are well behaved and their moral, spiritual, social and cultural development is good with particular strengths in moral and social aspects.
The report cited strengths in the schools council which has a major voice in the running of the school. With their own budget, they have been responsible for a number of important initiatives in the school and changes in the curriculum.
School staff were complimented for their detailed lesson planning, good teaching and carefully tailored support, which is effectively developed through their knowledge of each pupil. As a result learning and progress is good and across the school pupils with severe or multiple learning difficulties, including those with autistic spectrum disorders, settle well into work and are willing to engage and cooperate. Leaders and managers at all levels in the school provide clear direction and set high expectations for the school.
Pupils enjoy going to school and attendance is above average. Away form lessons, pupils engage in fund raising for charities which gives them a wider outlook on life. As a result they are self-confident, have a strong sense of what is right and good, and act in a friendly, considerate manner towards each other and staff.
Parents and carers agree with the inspectors’ judgement. One commented: “My child has not been in the school long but since they started their confidence has grown and there is a desire to learn and achieve.”
